Mr. Urban was born in Minneapolis, MN.  He moved to Portland, OR when he was 10, and has been in Oregon ever since.  He began band in the 6th grade on euphonium, then switched to the tuba in 7th grade.  In high school he continued with band and joined the high school's top choir.  He performed in many honor ensembles on tuba (including WIBC and the All State Band) as well as participating in the state solo contest (placing 4th in the state in his junior year). During this time, he also began teaching private lessons.  That is when he discovered his passion for teaching.

Mr. Urban has performed both instrumental and vocal music in 7 other countries around the world, and enjoys reading, fishing, swimming, water skiing, bowling, playing volleyball, and studying Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in his spare time.
